For Coudersport Public Library’s young patrons, Summer Reading starts NOW!
We’ve heard from bored children and parents who are having trouble getting their youngsters to do their schoolwork at home. We want to help, and to make at-home learning fun. So instead of waiting until June, we’re launching our Summer Reading program today!
Young readers (ages birth through 12th grade) can begin their book lists and accumulate points toward incentives to be awarded when the 2020 Summer Reading program opens at the Coudersport Public Library. How does it work? To sign them up for Summer Reading, just email us at coudersportlibrary@gmail.com with your child’s name, age and the grade they expect to enter in the fall. Please also include your name and phone number. We’ll register your child and as of that date, they can begin keeping a list of the books they’ve read at home during the school closure, and up until Summer Reading begins (date to be determined).
Any books read by the child, or to the child (for school or pleasure) up until Summer Reading begins can be added to their list, even after school reopens. Have older children read to their younger siblings; they can each get credit! When the program officially begins this summer, let our staff know how many books they’ve read and we’ll give them stickers to place on their reading log sheet. In the past we’ve awarded backpacks, soccer balls, books, puzzles, and a variety of items earned through the number of books read and logged.
Children must be patrons of Coudersport Public Library (or children of patrons) to qualify for Summer Reading incentives; if you live in the Coudersport Public Library service area and you or your child need a Library card, email us to receive a provisional card and sign up your child for Summer Reading. Take advantage of this time to encourage your child to love books, and to begin raising a reader!
